Getting started
- On any web page, click the StyleLift icon in the toolbar, or press Alt Shift C. If you don’t see the icon, click the puzzle-piece icon and pin StyleLift (in Edge, click the eye next to it).
- Hover any element to see its CSS in the panel.
- Click to pin it and copy its CSS. Shift-click copies the whole component as HTML + CSS.

- Esc
- Unpin, then close the inspector
To change the toolbar shortcut, open chrome://extensions/shortcuts (or edge://extensions/shortcuts in Edge). The copy settings (colors, CSS rules or inline style or JSX, variables, states, breakpoints) are in the panel’s ⚙ menu and on StyleLift’s options page. The guides show what each one does: StyleLift guides.
“StyleLift can’t run on this page”
On some pages the StyleLift icon shows “!” and its tooltip says “StyleLift can’t run on this page: browsers block extensions on their own pages, web stores and PDFs.” Browsers don’t let any extension run there:
- the browser’s own pages:
chrome://,edge://,about:and settings pages; - the Chrome Web Store and Edge Add-ons;
- the built-in PDF viewer;
view-source:pages, and images or SVG files opened on their own.
The “!” goes away when you go to a regular web page.
Local files (file://)
StyleLift can inspect HTML files on your computer once you allow it: open chrome://extensions (or edge://extensions), click Details under StyleLift and turn on Allow access to file URLs. Until then, the tooltip on a local file says so.
I clicked the icon and nothing happened
Wait for the page to finish loading and click again. After StyleLift updates, pages that were already open may need a reload. If it still doesn’t open, use “Report a problem” at the bottom of StyleLift’s options page: it starts an email with your StyleLift version, browser and system already filled in.
The page blocks copying
Some sites forbid the clipboard. StyleLift then copies from a small window of its own, out of the site’s reach: it shows “Copied” for a moment and closes. If the window asks, press Copy. If you closed it before it could copy, the panel says “This page blocks copying.” and offers a “Copy in a StyleLift window” button.
“Some styles come from another domain”
Many sites load their stylesheets from a separate domain, such as a CDN. When that domain doesn’t allow other sites to read the files, no extension running in the page can read their rules, StyleLift included. The panel then says “Some styles come from another domain; sizes are measured, not authored”, and the copy carries the same note as a comment. Widths are written as measured, so the copied element keeps its size, but :hover, @media and var() rules that live only in those files are missing.
Licenses and the trial
- Every feature works for the first 7 days, with no card and no account. After that, inspecting stays free and copying needs a lifetime license.
- Activating, moving a license to another browser and fixing activation errors: Activate your StyleLift license.
- One license works in up to 3 browsers. StyleLift never asks for your license key on a website.
- Pricing, privacy and what happens offline: the FAQ, the privacy policy and the license terms.
